Vanessa Germosen focuses exclusively on children and childlike creatures as the subjects in her paintings. Her innocent, young figures are commonly juxtaposed against much more mature themes like death, sexuality, depression, and discrimination.

Often there is a longing in the eyes of her subjects. Whether it’s a longing for acceptance, truth, love, trust, or understanding is for the viewer to decide. Part of the beauty of using young subjects is that they arouse an

natural yearning in us to want protect and help. The evocation of these emotions then allows for some of the mature subject matter to feel more attainable and open for discussion.

Vanessa’s painting style combines highly rendered acrylic paint with glazing techniques, giving her work luminosity and depth not always associated with acrylics.
